Course History
The Pontiac Golf and Country Club opened as a picturesque 9 hole course in late May of 1921. The Pontiac Daily Leader ran a front page article on the club calling it “the “sportiest” [course] conceivable, with intriguing hazards, enticing fairways and velvet greens.”
There were more than five hundred in attendance for the event.
In 1946 Pontiac Golf and Country Club is purchased by the Elks. The Elks served the community in a number of ways through charitable giving and fund raising in their tenure as owner/operators of the golf course.
The Pontiac Elks Invitational started in 1962 when the Pontiac Elks Country Club was only a nine hole course. The tournament field was always one of the strongest fields outside of a state event or USGA event.
Bill Stilwell was integral in the success of the tournament, and the tournament was eventually renamed in his memory.
Originally a 9 hole course, Pontiac Golf & Country Club, now under the ownership of The Elks, was expanded to 18 holes in 1975 and became one of the finest semiprivate facilities in the area.
This course features bent grass greens, fairways and tees. With a mix of mature trees throughout, there is also plenty of sand and water to challenge your shot making skills.
In February of 2021 the city council of The City of Pontiac voted to purchase the course and clubhouse from the Pontiac Elks. The primary change to the course from this move was that it was now a more publicly accessible course.
The City of Pontiac then began efforts to solve some grounds issues, and develop the relationships inherited from The Elks, as well as develop new relationships for golf.
The City of Pontiac unveils the rebranded golf course “The Oaks At River’s Edge” and encourages everyone near and far to golf at the oaks.
